Passing Down The Truth
Unfortunately the curriculum for most schools, from California to New York, (on all school levels) did not include the true history of America. In reality, a large amount of the truth was buried under parks, lakes and/or totally omitted from the history books. In most cases the history of America was fabricated to the fullest extent in an effort to make America appear like it's slogan "Land of the Free'. In this painting, the older gentleman is making it his priority to pass down the true history of the way the black race has been constantly treated to this day. The holes in the older gentleman's uniform, represent his struggles to just be a part of the USA team. Also on his uniform is the year which is considered to be the first enslaved African human beings to arrive in Jamestown Virginia. The young man ready to take on the truth, is also prepared to carry the burden of fighting for justice and equality. And even though there is no clear cut plan, this young man is willing to also fight for a reasonable reparations plan for African American families. On the young man's uniform, he wears the year the last enslaved humans found out that they were actually free. The young man also wears the number "1" because there is only "One Truth". The young man's shadow is the hope that he will have the opportunity to tell the truth as an adult male who was not shot and killed by some form of violence, hate crime and especially by the police. On the 12 stripes of this flag, bares 25 of the cities that experienced massacres of human beings solely based on the color of their skin and sadly to say, there are many more untold stories. On the USA flag there are 13 stripes, but on this original painting the last stripe is hidden on the bottom of the canvas to represent the hidden history of the black race in America. The 50 small black power fist, do not necessarily represent the 50 states, but they represent the numerous and continuous fight for justice and equality the black race deserves. The large black fist represents the strength of unity. Last but not least, the baton says it all.. THE TRUTH!
